SELF-CARE: FROM AWARENESS TO COLLECTIVE HEALTH.

The object is to place Nursing as a scientific discipline; take from it its theoretical framework around the concept of self-care and from an epistemological view resituate these knowledge from a social paradigm that incorporates the subjective process of consciousness and the community dimension of...

description The object is to place Nursing as a scientific discipline; take from it its theoretical framework around the concept of self-care and from an epistemological view resituate these knowledge from a social paradigm that incorporates the subjective process of consciousness and the community dimension of good living.Methodologically, the qualitative research process and the epistemological approach of Nurse J. Fawcett were followed. This theoretical epistemological analysis allows to obtain two concrete results in the development of the theoretical scaffolding of Nursing as a discipline: on the one hand, the exit of the bio-medical paradigm incorporating critical currents of thought and on the other, redefine and reposition the role and contributions of Nursing at the community level, thus expanding professional participation not only in interdisciplinary health teams, but also in public policy planning and management spaces. These results allow two great conclusions to be generated: one is the application of this epistemological framework to the concept of self-care and the other is the need to define new empirical indicators according to theoretical definitions.
