In the following article we present the partial results of an academic work in which we address the conceptual relationships between the variationalist concepts of slang and jargon, two terms that within linguistics present the problem of having been used as synonyms for much of their trajectory, without actually being so. Through the compilation of bibliographical and doctrinal sources for the subsequent elaboration of a series of terminological cards, we want to clarify the relationships between these terms, which are presented in a more complex way than one might think in a first approach. This work is part of a broader study that also includes the characterization of such important languages in Spanish as cheli (Spain), parlache (Colombia), lunfardo (Argentina) and coa (Chile) as marginal languages, closer to the argot than to the jargon. However, here we will focus exclusively on describing the results of the first part.
