From the approach of a partial publication of a book -whose authorship was attributed to José Néstor Lencinas-, a journalistic chronicle and a subsequent testimony, we tries to elucidate the interpretations made of the historical episode by different actors from the political-partisan spectrum, its importance as a founding myth for the “UCR” national party and the significance that the “Lencinista” faction gave it by establishing itself as a local political party. Likewise, it seeks to frame such disputes in the course of expanded democracy at the provincial level and analyze the shifts in meaning operated in the story of “Lencinismo” fromthe perspective of the political uses of the past. El presente artículo propone analizar las disputas de sentido gestadas en torno a la revolución radical de 1905 en el marco de las luchas políticas y del proceso de articulación identitaria del radicalismo lencinista en Mendoza, entre 1918 y 1924. A partir de la publicación parcial de un libro -cuya autoría fue atribuida a José Néstor Lencinas-, de una crónica periodística y de otro testimonio posterior, nos interesa elucidar las interpretaciones que hicieron sobre el episodio histórico distintos actores del espectro político-partidario, dar cuenta de su importancia como mito fundacional para el radicalismo local y elucidar la significación que le dio la facción lencinista al erigirse como partido político provincial autónomo. Asimismo, se busca enmarcar tales disputas en el derrotero de la democracia ampliada a nivel provincial y analizar los desplazamientos de sentido operados en el relato del lencinismo desde la óptica de los usos del pasado.
