They are precisely the basic sciences as the history, the cultural anthropology, sociology, archaeology, between others, constitute a set of disciplines that provide the knowledge, methods, concepts, approaches, which make possible the development of the investigation in the museum. The scopes and meanings assumed by the Project of Investigation in Jesus Maria National Jesuit Museum have allowed to take forward actions tied to the interpretation, conservation and documentation of the patrimonial goods that are guarded, putting special attention to the case of the Collection of Ancient Documents. It is a question of a set of historical texts belonging to the centuries XVI - the XIXth realized on paper with ferrous inks and with procedural writing, “bastardilla” or italic. The diagnosis as for the type of writing and the difficulties derived for his reading and interpretation, the condition of the support, the harmful effects of the used inks and the external conditions of conservation, led to effecting in the period 2005-2007 a Project of Investigation to guarantee his preservation. La investigación en el museo asume diferentes significados apareciendo ligada a la adquisición y recuperación de las colecciones, la documentación, la conservación, el diseño de exposiciones, las publicaciones, la pedagogía-didáctica, los estudios de público, la teoría de la comunicación y el turismo cultural. Son precisamente las ciencias básicas como la historia, la antropología cultural, sociología, arqueología, entre otras, constituyen un conjunto de disciplinas que proveen los conocimientos, métodos, conceptos, enfoques, que hacen posible el desarrollo de la investigación en el museo. Los alcances y significados asumidos por el Proyecto de Investigación en el Museo Jesuítico de Jesús María han permitido llevar adelante acciones ligadas a la interpretación, conservación y documentación de los bienes patrimoniales museológicos que se custodian, poniendo especial atención al caso de la Colección de Documentos Antiguos. Se trata de un conjunto de textos históricos pertenecientes a los siglos XVI-XIX, realizados sobre papel con tintas ferrosas y con escritura procesal y bastardilla o itálica. El diagnóstico en cuanto al tipo de escritura y las dificultades derivadas para su lectura e interpretación, el estado del soporte, los efectos nocivos de las tintas utilizadas y las condiciones externas de conservación, llevaron a efectuar en el período 2005-2007 un Proyecto de Investigación para garantizar su preservación.
