This article describes the formation of the collection, the donation to the museum in 1971, and its component parts. The objective is to show a patrimonial legacy of great relevance for the understanding of past societies, and also to investigate ways of art patronage in Argentine. El Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes de Tandil alberga una importante colección de arte donada por Mercedes Santamarina, compuesta por diversas piezas de gran valor histórico y universal. El presente artículo describe el proceso de conformación de la colección, la donación al Museo en 1971, y la composición de la misma. El objetivo es dar a conocer un legado patrimonial de gran relevancia para el conocimiento de las sociedades pasadas, así como para examinar los modos de funcionamiento del mecenazgo en Argentina.
