Sumario:In Argentina, housing policy is identified with the roll played by Banco Hipotecario Nacional (BHN) and with the policies promoted by the Peronist’s government. However, before the state intervention, there had been a low interest rate financing for housing construction, known as building association, that had been carried on by different private companies since 1935. The present paper is about the experience of those companies who used that kind of financing and its relationship to the BHN’s policies and operative. The building association was developed by private sector until 1949, because at that time his client portfolio was transferred to BHN by order of the Central Bank. Afterward, some firms continued operating with the BHN as construction companies in a context of increasing activity.
