It assumes the view that documental management is indispensable and inseparable from the preservation of sources, which are connected, at the same time, to the intention of telling, to the need to record versions and narratives, and to the general and broader education of scientists and non-scientists. Este artículo presenta reflexiones sobre las fuentes para la historia de la ciencia y la tecnología, a partir de la experiencia de los autores en archivos de instituciones científicas brasileñas. Se considera que la gestión de los documentos es indispensable e inseparable de la preservación de las fuentes, que están conectadas, al mismo tiempo, con la intención de decir, con la necesidad de registrar versiones y narraciones, y con la educación general y más amplia de los científicos y no científicos.
