The "visual" has had some difficulty in making headway in a historiographical practice which is, in many ways, still very traditional. The crisis of the Italian university system and the lack of turnover have contributed to making this even more difficult. Esta contribución aborda el modo en que los historiadores de la ciencia italianos se han enfrentado en las últimas décadas a las nuevas perspectivas derivadas del llamado giro icónico. Lo "visual" ha encontrado una cierta dificultad para abrirse paso en una práctica historiográfica que en muchos aspectos sigue siendo muy tradicional.
