Sumario:The study of urban phenomena has gained in recent years an increasing vitality in relation to economic and urban transformations generated by globalization. Under this there has been a renewed focus on the spatial conditions of the historical and social functioning. Looking beyond purely theoretical approach, we propose to reflect on the possibilities and methodological limitations in the historical study of cities from a specific research experience located in the city of Neuquen, during the second half of the twentieth century. We do not want these pages to become a recipe for addressing the cities. We prefer, in any case, present a series of historiographical considerations, made at different times and from different theoretical perspectives, allowing us to set problems and methodologies for the analysis of urban realities, as norpatagonicas, whosestudy in historical key has not been sufficiently addressed. Thus arise the use of a range of heuristic possibilities, among other possible, demanding the historical approach to spatial forms, indicating the various modes of access to urban: gray literature, regulations, print media, oral testimony and visuals.
