Under this there has been a renewed focus on the spatial conditions of the historical and social functioning. Looking beyond purely theoretical approach, we propose to reflect on the possibilities and methodological limitations in the historical study of cities from a specific research experience located in the city of Neuquen, during the second half of the twentieth century. We do not want these pages to become a recipe for addressing the cities. We prefer, in any case, present a series of historiographical considerations, made at different times and from different theoretical perspectives, allowing us to set problems and methodologies for the analysis of urban realities, as norpatagonicas, whosestudy in historical key has not been sufficiently addressed. Thus arise the use of a range of heuristic possibilities, among other possible, demanding the historical approach to spatial forms, indicating the various modes of access to urban: gray literature, regulations, print media, oral testimony and visuals. El estudio de los fenómenos urbanos ha ganado en los últimos tiempos una creciente vitalidad en relación con las transformaciones económicas y urbanas generadas por la globalización. Ello ha producido una renovada atención sobre las condiciones espaciales del funcionamiento histórico y social. Buscando trascender planteamientos exclusivamente teóricos, proponemos reflexionar sobre las posibilidades y limitaciones metodológicas en el estudio histórico de las ciudades a partir de una experiencia de investigación concreta situada en la ciudad de Neuquén, durante la segunda mitad del siglo XX. No deseamos que estas páginas se conviertan en una receta para el abordaje de las ciudades. Preferimos, en todo caso, presentar una serie de consideraciones historiográficas, elaboradas en distintos momentos y desde diferentes ópticas teóricas, que nos permitan marcar problemas y metodologías para el análisis de realidades urbanas, como las norpatagónicas, cuyo estudio en clave histórica no ha sido suficientemente abordado. De este modo, se plantean la utilización de un abanico de posibilidades heurísticas, entre otras posibles, que exige el abordaje histórico de las formas espaciales, indicando las diversas modalidades de acceso a lo urbano: literatura gris, normativas, prensa gráfica, testimonios orales y representaciones visuales.
