| Sumario: | The informations of merits and services are documents issued between the sixteenth and the eighteenth centuries. Through them, vassals of the Spanish crown requested a reward for the actions taken in defense of the king, his kingdoms and his fortunes. Diverse royal dispositions, which reached a high level of control and normalization, established the procedure, notably regarding the requests coming from America. The issued documents provide a personal point of view (that of the solicitor), supported by different testimonies from witnesses. This fact makes the informations of merits and services a privileged source to analyze a wide range of questions. In this article, we present a case that allows us to identify a variety of fronts in which the Spanish monarchy was involved, through the trajectory of Francisco Arias de Herrera. |
