Through them, vassals of the Spanish crown requested a reward for the actions taken in defense of the king, his kingdoms and his fortunes. Diverse royal dispositions, which reached a high level of control and normalization, established the procedure, notably regarding the requests coming from America. The issued documents provide a personal point of view (that of the solicitor), supported by different testimonies from witnesses. This fact makes the informations of merits and services a privileged source to analyze a wide range of questions. In this article, we present a case that allows us to identify a variety of fronts in which the Spanish monarchy was involved, through the trajectory of Francisco Arias de Herrera. Las informaciones de méritos y servicios son documentos producidos entre los siglos XVI y XVIII, a través de los cuales los súbditos de la corona española solicitaban gratificaciones por las acciones realizadas en defensa del rey, sus reinos y hacienda.A partir de diversas cédulas reales, las cuales alcanzaron un alto grado de control y normalización, se fue estableciendo el procedimiento, especialmente para las solicitudes procedentes de América. Los documentos generados ofrecen un punto de vista personal (el del solicitante), el cual se apoya en diversos testimonios de testigos. Esto convierte a las informaciones de méritos y servicios en fuentes privilegiadas para analizar un amplio espectro de problemáticas. En este artículo presentamos un caso que permite identificar la variedad de frentes de conflicto en los que se encontraba involucrada la monarquía española, a través de la trayectoria de Francisco Arias de Herrera.
