Sumario:This work is aimed at reflecting on the potential of the use of the nineteenth century press in the reconstruction of the Nation-State building process. In order to address this matter the Mendoza’s newspaper El Tupungato (1862-1863) was chosen as object of analysis in order to analyze its ideas and statements, which were intended to support the liberal project leaded by Bartolome Mitre after battle of Pavon and, we consider, were a key factor in the configuration of some local political practices. In addition, this article has a documentary annex including a selection of editorials and illustrative articles.
