In order to address this matter the Mendoza’s newspaper El Tupungato (1862-1863) was chosen as object of analysis in order to analyze its ideas and statements, which were intended to support the liberal project leaded by Bartolome Mitre after battle of Pavon and, we consider, were a key factor in the configuration of some local political practices. In addition, this article has a documentary annex including a selection of editorials and illustrative articles. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo reflexionar sobre las potencialidades del uso de la prensa decimonónica en la reconstrucción del proceso de configuración del Estado Nacional. Para abordar esta cuestión se ha seleccionado como objeto de análisis el periódico mendocino El Tupungato (1862-1863) con el propósito de analizar sus discursos y representaciones, que estuvieron destinados a apoyar el proyecto liberal dirigido por Bartolomé Mitre luego de la batalla de Pavón, y consideramos, fueron claves en la configuración de algunas prácticas políticas locales.
