This trip was dedicated to the developing of a project of "Germanic Colony" in the Patagonia, with the support of the Argentinean government. Vallentin published a report on his travel, assessing the population capacity and evaluating the area. One of the main objectives of the present work is to present Vallentin’s Report since there are only two copies in the world. We also describe and systemize the general work of this author, in order to formulate a hypothesis about the relevance of this report within his broader production, practically neglected by international historiography. Entre 1903 y 1905 el explorador alemán Wilhelm Vallentin efectuó un viaje a través de Sudamérica que devino en la formulación de un proyecto de "colonia germana" en Patagonia con el apoyo del gobierno argentino. Tras inspeccionar la zona y evaluar su capacidad de poblamiento, redactó un informe que publicó en forma de folleto. Son objetivos de este artículo, por un lado, presentar este documento, del que sólo existen dos copias en el mundo, y por otro, describir y sistematizar la obra general del autor, a fin de formular una hipótesis sobre la importancia de este Informe dentro de su más vasta producción –prácticamente desatendida por la historiografía internacional–.
