La intención de Cornejo es ocuparse de esta enfermedad, uno de los males cortesanos habituales, que aquejaba ciertamente al monarca español. Examina los sujetos que suelen sufrir este mal y rechaza las explicaciones legadas por los antiguos. Prefiere medicinas no tradicionales, en abierto desafío al legado de las Autoridades.
