It describes the studies’ arrangement that the Preacher’s Order used to attend mainly their educational necessities but also of the society in Puebla. The review of these institutional regulations exposes the type of academic training which the Order provided to its own community members as well as the seculars, and simultaneously shows the limits that the civil and religious authorities imposed to them in order to grant the degrees that made possible the social climb. Este texto presenta el examen de las primeras constituciones del colegio de San Luis Rey de Puebla de los Ángeles. Tiene el propósito de mostrar la organización de los estudios que dispuso la Orden de Predicadores para atender, principalmente, sus propias necesidades formativas pero, también, las de la sociedad angelopolitana. A partir del repaso de la reglamentación de esta institución, se expone el tipo de formación académica que la Orden brindó tanto a los integrantes de su propia comunidad como a los seglares y, al mismo tiempo, los límites que los poderes civiles y religiosos le impusieron para otorgar los grados que hacían posible el ascenso social.
