In the first part, I go through the process of elaborating my own research journey based on those sources and present the hypotheses of that work. Secondly, I illustrate with a specific case how diplomatic documents can be used from a cultural history perspective. The examination of a heterogeneous repertoire of symbolic actions in short spans of time allows to make the periodization more complex and to restore meanings overlooked by traditional diplomatic history. Finally, I raise some considerations on the methodological possibilities and limitations I faced in the analysis of diplomatic sources.
