| Sumario: | This article presents an analysis of a documentary corpus in the archival fund named Institutions of the Society of Beneficence and Social Assistance, located in the General Archive of the Nation (AGN). It focuses on a file labeled: “Society of Beneficence. Extraordinary services 1823-1900”, which contains documents that demonstrate the assistance function of this agency and its participation in the labor placement of indigenous people in a period of military campaigns of Pampa, Norpatagonia and Chaco, between 1878-1885. This corpus allows us to explore a phenomenon scarcely considered by the studies of the world of urban work at the end of the century. This article identifies the specific dimensions and characteristics of such labor relations in that specific conjuncture. It investigates the affected populations and replenishes contextual elements in order to consider the connections between guardianship and work, as well as the relations of dependence and subordination that contributed to the processes of ethnicization of these populations in the city. |
