In this analysis, we will explore poetry written by various authors with different points of view, which are related to their time and production context. Based on the most current emblems and supported by the concept of ekphrasis, we aim to highlight the presence of an image in the New Spain poetry. The little bird’s gaze, its actions and everything that surrounds it are crucial elements towards the understanding of certain meanings such as freedom, death and captivity. El papel que desempeñan las aves en la literatura novohispana y, posteriormente, en el Romanticismo, nos remite al comportamiento humano: analogía, simbolismos y significados que nos llevan a distintas interpretaciones. En este trabajo, abordaremos la poesía de diversos autores con perspectivas diferentes vinculadas a su tiempo y contexto de producción. A partir de los emblemas más vigentes y, apoyados en el concepto de ekphrasis, afirmamos que se busca destacar en la poesía novohispana la presencia de una imagen. La mirada del pajarillo, su actividad y todo lo que lo rodea son elementos cruciales para entender ciertos significados como la libertad, la muerte y el cautiverio. Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.
