description From an archaeological perspective, the time of contact between the residents of North Calchaquí Valley and European groups was poorly identified. This peculiarity becomes evident when we look at the plenty archaeological records assigned to previous occupations in Late or Inca conquest times. In the area of Cachi River Basin, these types of occupation were characterized in more than 12 archaeological sites while only 4 were linked to the Spanish presence episodes. Among these the archaeological sites La Aguada (SSalCac9) and La Hoyada (SSalCac144), excavated by Pio Pablo Diaz between the 1970s and 1980s, stand out. In both of them, 16 burials of boot type with side entrance near residential areas were found, in which some European objects were associated with other local manufactures. These inhumations, in which foreign objects served as temporary indicators, gained significance in the process of defining the Hispanic-Indian contact archaeological period (Núñez Regueiro 1974; Tarragó 1974, 1984). Under this framework, is that since 2015 we decided to initiate a research process which seeks to characterize locally manufactured objects from these sites linked to moments of Hispanic-Indian contacts. Assuming that they are the result of a practical framed in cultural devices, analysis of ceramic objects and animal bone from those sites is presented. In the process of generating a contribution that helps to characterize the contact problem occurred in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries in the Cachi river basin.
