description The article presents the results of a study carried out on Rheidae eggshells from the excavation of Boyo Paso 2 in the Córdoba Sierras in Argentina. This is an open-air site with occupations from the late prehispanic period (1500–750 BP). The aim was to identify the species and taxonomic diversity of late prehispanic mixed foraging and diets based on the data from Rheidae eggshells. The taxonomic identification was done by quantifying eggshell pore density and assigning specimens to a species according to defined ranges for modern samples of Rhea americana and Rhea pennata. A fraction of the assemblage was identified as Rhea cf. R. americana and Rhea cf. R. pennata. The results offer greater knowledge on late prehispanic subsistence and environment and suggest that the adoption of domestic crops around 1500 years ago was accompanied by a diversification of foraging activities, including the addition of new food resources from Rhea pennata and Rhea americana.
