description ResumenLa preocupación de la historiografía chilena y argentina por explicar la formación de los estados nacionales a partir de las guerras de independencia ha minimizado y hasta tergiversado la resistencia social y la confrontación política que surgió en las respectivas fronteras del sur. A partir de 1818 los realistas derrotados organizaron una guerrilla multiétnica movilizada en distintos frentes simultáneos desde la Araucanía hasta las pampas bonaerenses para frenar el avance de los gobiernos liberales hasta 1832. El mundo fronterizo se vio convulsionado por la «guerra a muerte» entre realistas y patriotas la cual involucró directamente a los grupos nativos.Desde esta perspectiva, la guerrilla no responde al estereotipo de «bandido» con el cual las versiones tradicionales explican la violencia generalizada de la época. En este sentido nos proponemos analizar la implicancia de la guerrilla en pleno proceso de formación estatal revisando las imágenes dispersas y fragmentadas que dominan sobre el tema. Palabras claves: estados nacionales - fronteras- guerrilla- indígenas- pugna política. AbstractThe preoccupation of the Chilean and Argentine historiography to explain the formation of the national states from the independence wars has diminished and until distorted the social resistance and the political confrontation that arose in the respective borders of the south. From 1818 the defeated realists organized a multi-ethnic guerrilla mobilized in different simultaneous fronts from the Araucanía to Buenos Aires Pampas to stop the advance of the liberal governments to 1832. The frontier world was convulsed by the «war until death» between patriotics and realists and involved directly the native groups.From this perspective, the guerrilla does not respond to the stereotype of «bandit» with who the traditional versions explain the generalized violence of the time. In this sense we set out to analyze the implicancia of the guerrilla in the heat of process of state formation reviewing the dispersed and fragmented images that dominates on the subject. Key words: national states – frontier- guerrilla- natives- struggles political.
