description The archaeological collections that are preserved at the Museo de La Plata consist of materials obteined by donations as well as by scientific works performed in the coastal localities of Punta Lara, Palo Blanco, Los Talas, Punta Indio and Punta Piedras (province of Buenos Aires, Argentina). They were located in the depositories of the museum´s Archaeological Division, in poor conditions of ordering, storage and labelling. The autor has worked on the identification, the ordering and the registration of the materials in accordance with the current reorganization of the depositories. This article presents the problems identified in relation to the preservation of these collections, reflected on the low valuation and the peripheral character they had in the institution. It is considered that these collections have archaeological and heritage significance. Also it is proposed a methodological guideline for a suitable approach that contribute to their revaluation.
