description Through diverse written sources and colonial cartography representations we propose to reconstruct the acting and visibility of Indian groups of meridional puna of the Gobernación del Tucumán between the XVI and the XVII centuries. From a diacronic and microhistoric perspective, focused on the interaction of its actors and the diversity of sources where they are mentioned, we analyse the specific case of the “andiafacos”. In order to do this, we register its incorporation to the “pulares encomienda”, handed in with the foundation of the city of Salta in 1582, and its participation in the great-scale resistances, which took place along the XVII century. The historic cartography, the linguistic analysis of the toponymy and the documentary descriptions allow us to locate the “andiafacos” as “puna” inhabitants, keeping tight relationships with the valley groups of the Gobernación del Tucumán. A diachronic focus of the words “andiafaco” and “andiafacogasta” allows us to register its transformation from a collective meaning towards a territorial adscription, which makes the Andes geography a weapon for resistance.
