In this article, we aim to discuss issues concerning ideas of pueblo/povo circulating in the Río de la Plata region and the Empire of Brazil between the 1830’s and the 1850’s, the initial stage of the construction of the national state. In order to develop our proposal, we address the issue from works by Juan Bautista Alberdi (1810-1884) and Jose Inácio de Abreu e Lima (1794-1869), two Argentinean and Brazilian intellectuals who, by thinking about the national question, contributed to the forging of a Latin American thought from a perspective of joining the modern world that advanced through America in the nineteenth century. |
