Tetrapyrgos nigripes is characterized by its centrally stipitated pileus with tetrahedric spores and a pileipellis with rameal structures, while X. tenuipes has a yellowish to ochraceus orange pileus, paler yellow lamellae, and a reddish brown stipe covered by abundant hairs that give it a velvety appearance.
