description From 1920 until now there has existed a transatlantic relation between Spain and Spanish America with regard to the great French novel by Marcel Proust. The Recherche was discovered at the end of 1919 with the announcement of the Goncourt Prize. Since then a large number of French and Spanish authors began to publish articles about Proust’s work in their countries of origin and, eventually, to send them across the Atlantic Ocean. Very soon, Spanish American critics also embarked upon the reading of the Recherche and wrote texts that some Spanish authors could consult over time. Through translations, articles and even entire books they shared their ideas and knowledge of Proust’s work with other essayists of the Spanish language. The following study is an attempt to show in what way some Spanish, Argentine, Chilean, Venezuelan, Mexican, etc. literary critics elaborated a tapestry of critical texts about Proust which were read frequently from one side of the Atlantic to the other.
