description As a consequence of the Ley de Servicios de Communicación Audiovisual [Law of Audiovisual Communication Services] national universities have obtained a legal frame to become the licensees of television. As a public policy, this made universities active participants in the fight for the material (media) and symbolic (representations) distribution of audiovisual communication (Arancibia, 2014) in the country. Although the process in the democratization of mass media was interrupted due to the regime change in 2015, universities continue betting for the creation of its screens and production of content. In this section, we will focus in the reflection and analysis of fictional narratives in series carried out by national universities, in the context of public policies designed to promote audiovisual production. We consider said fictional narratives as mediators for the implementation of a new university television with public and identity sense (Hall, 1992; Griffiths, 1993; Smith, 1997). This work takes into account three explanatory stages: the theoretical reflection of the relationship between TV fiction, representation and identity; the description of public policies designed for the implementation of university channels and the promotion of TV fiction; and the analysis of fiction raised by said policies.
