description Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) are defined as infections of the respiratory system, caused by viruses or bacteria, of evolution less than 15 days whose symptoms are cough, rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction, dysphonia or dyspnea, accompanied or not by fever. Among the most frequently found respiratory viruses are Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Bocavirus (BV), Adenovirus (AV), Influenza A and B (Flu), and Parainfluenza 1, 2 and 3 (PIV). From an outbreak of Enterovirus (EV) in 2014, causing respiratory cases of various varieties, EVs have taken a place in this scenario, although the prevalence of different serotypes is unknown. Objective. Detect the presence of EV of retrospective samples in cases of ARI of Córdoba. 138 samples of nasopharyngeal aspirate (ANF) from the years 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017, previously tested for VSR, hMPV, Flu, PIV, AV, Rhinovirus and BV were randomly selected from the biobank of the Virology Institute. The presence of EV was determined by RT-nested PCR specific to the VP1 region. CIES Oulton approval 12/20/2017. EV was found in 13% (18/138) of the samples; 62% (11/18) was recorded in autumn followed by 38% (7/18) in winter. There was no detection of EV in the spring and summer samples. The highest number of cases, 13/18 (72%), was registered in children under one year of male sex. Of the total Positive EV, 83% corresponded to monoinfection with the virus. The years with the highest to lowest detection percentage were 2016,2017 and 2007 respectively. It was not possible to identify the circulating serotypes. The results indicate the presence of EV in ANF samples of cases of ARF during autumn and winter, mainly under one year. The detection frequency was similar to that of other circulating respiratory viruses. Due to the existence of coinfections, in order to make a correct differential diagnosis, it is important to take into account the epidemiology of EVs and their serotypes in cases of ARI.
