description	The presence of fossilized wood has been recorded in different archaeological contexts of the coast of the province of Chubut, although their frequency is variable and they show different qualities for flaking. In order to explore the relationship between the frequency of fossilized wood artifacts, and the distribution and quality of locally recognized sources, this paper analyzes fossilized wood artifacts recovered from sites on two coastal sectors of Chubut province: the north coast (between Arroyo Verde and Bahía Cracker, including Península Valdés) and the south coast (between Camarones and Bahía Solano). The results indicate a very limited use in the northern sector and high in the south, which suggests a close link between the intensity of use of the fossilized wood and the local supply: the lower distance from the primary outcrops of excellent quality, the more intensive exploitation; and vice versa. Therefore, for the south coast, direct acquisition is hypothesized, while for the north coast is inferred indirect obtaining (by trade) and also exploitation of fragments and small nodules occasionally found in local Tertiary sedimentary outcrops.
