The period between 1967 and 1973 represents a critical moment in the recent history of Uruguay, marked by the economic crisis, social mobilization, violence at different levels and repression by the State. This article presents a brief overview of the manifestations of graphic humor appeared in Uruguay in newspapers and specific supplements, trying to add items to the knowledge of this period from the focus on a particular expressive medium, which had those years a special expansion in this country. The humor cartoons are particularly expressive of the political posturing, but especially for the sensitivities of the different imaginaries that coexist in a society, and the definitions that each group performs in the symbolic field. This converts them into sources of enormous value to the understanding of a period in which there were strong symbolic struggles simultaneously to power struggles and deep changes in economic, social and political spheres. |
