description This paper presents the design and preliminary psychometric analysis of a scale to assess taxonomic conceptual relations. The instrument consists of a verbal and a pictorial scale and offers four answer choices. We assessed 43 participants with and without neurological disease over 60 years. A discriminant analysis was conducted and it indicated a sensitivity of 90.9 % for the verbal scale and 91 % for the pictorial and a specificity of 100 % for both scales. Reliability analysis yielded ordinal alpha values of .985 for the verbal scale and .983 for the pictorial scale. In turn, evidences of convergent validity were obtained by correlating with WAIS´ Analogies subtest, Picture sorting from the EMSDA and word-picture matching from the BEA.
