Este ensayo busca colaborar con el desafío que representa para América Latina incrementar su presencia en el comercio mundial y obtener algunas pistas sobre los determinantes de los flujos comerciales. Para ello se vale de los modelos gravitacionales, en especial de las conclusiones que provienen de las aplicaciones más relevantes que resultan de utilidad para países latinoamericanos involucrados en procesos de integración, o en diferentes acuerdos comerciales, o para países que presentan determinadas características comunes entre sí.
