In Argentina, these processes are linked to the growing use of republicanism in political discourse, as well as its significance in rela- tion to democracy. Starting from this scena- rio, this paper investigates the uses and me- anings of republicanism and its interpreta- tion of democracy in the political discourse of present-day Argentina. To this end, the paper studies the articles in the newspapers La Nación and Clarín in 2019 in which the terms republican/republicanism are used, understanding their relevance in view of the mediatisation of politics and the increased use of such concepts in public debate, parti- cularly in an electoral context in which such discursive disputes are enhanced. Based on the above, the paper presents the redefini- tions of democracy and the link between republicanism and its shortcomings, as well as the political uses of these meanings, from the discursive constructions of right-wing sectors. Las últimas décadas han estado marcadas por el ascenso de sectores de derechas a gobiernos democráticos, en paralelo a la crisis de legitimidad y representación de dicho sistema. En la Argentina, tales procesos se articulan con la creciente utilización del republi- canismo en el discurso político, así como su significación en relación con la democracia. Partiendo de dicho escenario, el presente trabajo indaga en los usos y sentidos del republicanismo y su relectura de la democracia en el discurso político de la Argentina ac- tual. Para ello, estudia las notas de los diarios La Nación y Clarín en el año 2019 en don- de se utilizan los términos republicano/re- publicanismo, entendiendo su relevancia a partir de la mediatización de la política y el aumento del uso de tales conceptos en el debate público, en particular, en un contex- to electoral en el que tales disputas discursivas se ven potenciadas. A partir de lo ante- rior, el trabajo presenta las redefiniciones de la democracia y la vinculación del republicanismo frente a sus falencias, así como los usos políticos de dichas significaciones, desde las construcciones discursivas de sectores vinculados a las derechas.
