The character of the crisis and its origin in such social and cultural conditions are discussed, rather than in a conjunctural economic or political crisis, unlike other regional experiences. The changes in the Chilean social structure, of classes and social groups, in the last decades, and the new conflicts and polarities linked to it, are reviewed. The inability of the political sphere to process such conflict and its overflow, typical of an ongoing legitimacy crisis, is addressed. Finally, it is proposed that there are underlying social, political and cultural conditions for the emergence of a new people, capable of opening a new historical cycle, whose specificity distinguishes it from the one that in the twentieth century faced the old oligarchic-agrarian order. Se analiza la revuelta social chilena bajo la profundidad y duración de la transformación neoliberal, y la especificidad del sujeto popular que emerge de las contradicciones y conflictos propios de dichas condiciones. Se discute el carácter de la crisis y su origen en tales condiciones sociales y culturales, antes que, en una crisis económica o política coyuntural, a diferencia de otras experiencias regionales. Se revisan los cambios de la estructura social chilena, de clases y grupos sociales en las últimas décadas, y los nuevos conflictos y polaridades ligadas a ello. Se aborda la incapacidad de la esfera política para procesar tal conflictividad y su desborde, propia de una crisis de legitimidad en curso. Finalmente, se propone que allí subyacen las condiciones sociales, políticas y culturales para el surgimiento de un nuevo pueblo, capaz de abrir un nuevo ciclo histórico, cuya especificidad lo distingue de aquel que en el siglo XX enfrentó al viejo orden oligárquico-agrario.
