The practice was supported by the use that students make of technological devices to apply an argumentation strategy in the area of social sciences by the use of Facebook. For this purpose, a private group was created in such social network so that the participants could interact with each other on the analysis of an event related to a topic of social sciences. From the results obtained, it could be established that the use of ICT offers pedagogical possibilities for the development of critical thinking, due to the familiarity and interest that young people have in the use of technology and virtual platforms such as social networks. Although these platforms pose an entertaining function, they favor the development of academic activities that encourage the strengthening of cognitive abilities. Este texto presenta una indagación sobre las posibilidades pedagógicas del uso de TIC para el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico en estudiantes de secundaria. El ejercicio se apoyó en el uso que hacen los estudiantes de los dispositivos tecnológicos para aplicar una estrategia de argumentación en el área de ciencias sociales utilizando Facebook. Para tal fin, se creó un grupo privado en esa red social para que los participantes interactuaran entre sí en torno al análisis de un acontecimiento relacionado con una de las temáticas del área de ciencias sociales. A partir de los resultados obtenidos, se estableció que el uso de las TIC ofrece posibilidades pedagógicas para el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico, debido a la familiaridad e interés que presentan los jóvenes frente al uso de la tecnología y de plataformas virtuales como las redes sociales que, aunque plantean una función de entretenimiento, favorecen la realización de actividades académicas que promueven el fortalecimiento de habilidades cognitivas.
