However, the newcomer is often subjected to mistrust and prejudice by his previous peers because he is an “other” in the space dispute. This was the case of the Argentine exiles in Brazil, when they found an already settled Argentine community. The stigma of polarization and political violence of the 1970s also weighed on them: members of the community echoed the dictatorship's speech, calling them “terrorists.” This article presents a historical perspective on the contradictory relationship between these two groups, their constitution of identity, subjectivities, the demonization of the other(s), their networks of sociability. In order to answer these questions, we analyze oral interviews, documents and newspapers, which will allow us to outline the scenario of action and to approach this past full of ambiguities and conflicts. En el exterior, los emigrados tienden a buscar a sus compatriotas para romper el aislamiento provocado por el proceso migratorio y su fractura de identidad. Sin embargo, el recién llegado es a menudo objeto de desconfianza y prejuicio por parte de sus pares anteriores, porque es otro en la disputa de un determinado espacio. Este fue el caso de los exiliados argentinos en Brasil, cuando encontraron una comunidad argentina ya asentada. Además, el estigma de la polarización y la violencia política de la década de 1970 pesaba sobre ellos: los miembros de la comunidad se hicieron eco del discurso de la dictadura, llamándolos “terroristas”. Este artículo presenta una perspectiva histórica sobre la relación contradictoria entre estos dos grupos, su constitución de identidad, subjetividades, la demonización del otro, sus redes de sociabilidad. Para responder a estas preguntas, analizamos entrevistas orales, documentos y periódicos, que nos permitirán esbozar el escenario de acción y abordar este pasado lleno de ambivalencias y conflictos.
