Such analysis is based on the speech act theory proposed by Austin (1991) and a methodological framework based on Searle (1986), and it intends to determine the types of speech acts used in this kind of discourse, and if they are more direct or indirect. This study reveals that there are different types of speech acts, although most of them are directive; additionally, most of the speech acts found in the advertisements are indirect, which indicates a tendency by the addressers to mitigate the ilocutionary force in this kind of messages in order to express what they want the readers to perform.
