Fundamental records are handed over to deterioration. CONARQ states that "Brazilian public archives remain peripheral in the State and are not visible to society. They lack institutionality within the administration and consequently are absent from public policies ", which is why the formulation, implementation and visibility of archival public policies is fundamental, a context in which document management occupies a central place in the debate about access to information as a requirement of administrative transparency. At the municipal level, these issues are even more sensitive, due to the proximity and direct influence exercised by municipal administrations in the daily lives of citizens. The objective of this research is to carry out a study to identify archival public policies developed and implemented in the cities of Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro, through the analysis of the Transparency Portals and the institutional websites of these city halls.   Key Words: Records management; Municipal archives; Archival policies; Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro. En el área pública, la realidad archivística brasileña todavía apunta datos sorprendentes en lo que se refiere al tratamiento dispensado a documentos originales, conservados en los archivos. Registros fundamentales están entregados a la destrucción. El CONARQ afirma que "los archivos públicos brasileños permanecen periféricos en el Estado y poco visibles a la sociedad. Carecen de institucionalidad en el ámbito de la administración y consecuentemente se encuentran ausentes de las políticas públicas", razón por la cual es fundamental la formulación, implementación y visibilidad de las políticas públicas archivísticas, contexto donde la gestión de documentos ocupa un lugar central en el debate sobre el acceso a información como requisito de transparencia administrativa. En el ámbito municipal estas cuestiones son aún más sensibles, debido a la proximidad e influencia directa ejercida por las administraciones municipales en las vidas cotidianas de los ciudadanos. Esta investigación tiene por objetivo realizar un estudio de identificación de las políticas públicas archivísticas desarrolladas e implementadas en los municipios que integran la Región Metropolitana de Río de Janeiro a través del análisis de los Portales de la Transparencia y páginas electrónicas institucionales de esos ayuntamientos municipales.
