description The research field in fetal anatomy has been overlooked during the last decades in Argentina. From the Microanatomy Area, Chair of Normal Anatomy, School of Medicine, National University of Cordoba we are recently addressing this gap in the morphological research field. The bovine trunk is an anatomical variation in the origin of the supra aortic vessels, which consists in the brachiocephalic trunk or innominate artery and left common carotid artery sharing a common origin at the aortic arch. The focus of this research paper is set on anatomical variations for which scarce descriptive morphological literature exist. This comprises the anatomical variation previously described, as well as those of the bicuspid aortic valve, aberrant left vertebral artery and the arterial duct. The objective of this study was to describe the normal foetal morphology and the anatomical variations of the following vessels: aortic arch y bovine trunk, left vertebral artery y aberrant, aortic valve y bicuspid variation; abdominal aorta artery y its branches; situs inversus totalis, in order to analyse the frequency of these anatomical variations in a sample from Córdoba City. The study was performed on cadaveric samples of human foetuses donated by a public hospital (Misericordia Hospital) located in Cordoba City. A series of 85 foetuses of 12 to 15 weeks, male and female, were dissected. For this purpose, microdissection instruments, binocular magnifying lenses and camera Nikon 3300, lens Nikon 105 mm were used. Detailed record and description of the normal anatomy was carried out, as well as the identification of its variations concerning supra-aortic vessels, vertebral arteries, aortic valve and abdominal aortic branches. We found anatomical variations in the cardiovascular system and in the anatomical disposition of the thoracoabdominal organs. The incidence of these findings was as follows: situs inversus totalis 1.18%, supra aortic bovine trunk 7.06%; aberrant left vertebral artery 4.71%; bicuspid valve 1.18% y double right renal artery 1.18%; the other abdominal aortic branches presented normal anatomy in all cases. This study gave place to an original data base and photographic record of the fetal morphology, which previously was underdeveloped or completely missing. Knowledge of anatomical varieties improves diagnosis and treatment because it avoids medical mistakes and complications.

This study gave place to an original data base and photographic record of the fetal morphology, which previously was underdeveloped or completely missing. Knowledge of anatomical varieties improves diagnosis and treatment because it avoids medical mistakes and complications.
