Molecular diagnosis has shown the new impact of rhinoviruses on low IRA in children, sometimes in severity and exacerbation of asthma of chronic obstructive disease, with 43% of these being responsible for these. RVhs are important co-factors to the development of otitis media in children and sinusitis. The aim of this study was to determine the half-yearly circulation of Rinovirus by molecular biology at the Institute of Virology "Dr. J.M.Vanella" INVIV-FCM-UNC, in children interned with IRA at the Municipal Children's Hospital (HIM) in the city of Córdoba. It was a prospective survey of 326 samples that entered INVIV from September 2018, including February 2019. The samples were nasopharyngeal aspirated or nasopharyngeal hisoped from hospitalized children born to 14 years. The technique was Molecular Biology by RT-PCR in one step. Those who presented IRA-related signs and symptoms were selected, those with basic disease were not analyzed. Of the 326 samples studied, 33 were positive for RVh by Molecular Biology, giving a prevalence of 10%. They have co-infections with other agents, in a context of prevalence for Respiratory Sincicial Virus 30%, Parainfluenza I Virus  2%, Parainfluenza III Virus 4%, Metapneumovirus 4%, Influenza A 4%, in addition to bacterial co-infections. Our studies are the first on RVh by molecular biology in paediatric patients of the HIM of Córdoba. It is important to research, to reduce economic losses due to work and school absenteeism, increased medical visits, hospital overcrowding and inadequate prescription of antibiotics. The prevalence of RVH in respiratory infections has been underestimated, as its detection was slow by isolation in cell culture with low sensitivity. Our results contribute to the knowledge of this infectious agent and contribute to the prevalence reported by other authors, considering local particularities. Prevalence studies need to be continued in order to assess the impact of these infections on a larger sampling of hospitalized children in Córdoba

Prevalence studies need to be continued in order to assess the impact of these infections on a larger sampling of hospitalized children in Córdoba Las Infecciones Respiratorias Agudas (IRA) altas y bajas representan la mayor causa de morbi-mortalidad en el mundo y las de origen viral lo son para niños pequeños, ancianos e inmunocomprometidos.  En el CEMIC se estudiaron 186 niños menores de 5 años, ambulatorios con IRA alta y baja, detectando un 27% de RVh. El diagnóstico molecular ha demostrado el nuevo impacto de los rinovirus en IRA baja en niños, a veces de gravedad y exacerbación de cuadros asmáticos de la enfermedad obstructiva crónica, siendo responsables del 43% de estas. Los RVh, son importantes co-factores al desarrollo de otitis media en niños y sinusitis. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la circulación semestral de Rinovirus  por biología molecular en el Instituto de Virología "Dr. J.M.Vanella" INVIV-FCM-UNC, en niños internados con IRA en el Hospital Infantil Municipal (HIM) en la ciudad de Córdoba. Se realizó un estudo prospectivo de 326 muestras que ingresaron al INVIV desde septiembre 2018, incluyendo febrero 2019. Las muestras fueron Aspirados nasofaringeso o Hisopados nasofaringeos de niños hospitalizados recien nacidos a 14 años. La técnica fue Biología Molecular por RT-PCR de un solo paso.  Se seleccionaron aquellos que presentaron signos y síntomas relacionados a las IRA, no fueron analizados aquellos con comorbilidades previas. De las 326 muestras estudiadas, 33 resultaron positivas para RVh por Biología Molecular,  dando una prevalencia del 10%. Presentan co-infecciones con otros agentes, en un contexto de prevalencias para Virus  Respiratorio Sincicial 30%, Virus Parainfluenza I 2%, Virus Parainfluenza III  4%, Metapneumovirus 4%, Influenza A 4%, además de co-infecciones bacterianas. Nuestros estudios son los primeros sobre RVh por biología molecular en pacientes pediátricos del HIM de Córdoba. Es  importante su investigación, para disminuir pérdidas económicas por ausentismo laboral y escolar, aumento de visitas médicas, abarrotamiento de hospitales y prescripción inadecuada de antibióticos. La prevalencia de RVh en las infecciones respiratorias ha sido subestimada, ya que su detección era lenta por aislamiento en cultivo celular con baja sensibilidad. Nuestros resultados aportan al conocimiento de dicho agente infeccioso y contribuyen a la prevalencia reportada por otros autores, considerando las particularidades locales. Es necesario continuar los estudios de prevalencia con el fin de evaluar el impacto de dichas infecciones en un muestreo mayor de niños hospitalizados de Córdoba Universidad Nacional Cba.
