description Health-related quality of life (CV) assesses well-being according to the patient's perception. Validate the Diabetes 39 questionnaire. Evaluate CV and its relationship with age and sex in people with diabetes mellitus in a social security in Córdoba. Descriptive, cross-sectional survey, simple random sample of 291 people (population 1201). Validation by halves methods. The questionnaire consists of 39 questions in 5 dimensions. The median scores and 25-75% percentiles, comparison of means were made with a Student's T test or ANOVA to a factor, or Mann-Whitney or Kruskall-Wallis test when the assumptions for parametric tests were not met. A multiple logistic regression analysis was performed considering the CV score as the response variable. Median CV score (0 to 100) was used, classifying in categories above or below the median. The validation was carried out through the halves divided considering the dimensions of the test, the internal consistency through Cronbach's alpha. Of 291 patients, 42.7% (n = 123) were women, average age 60.4 years (± 11.2). Scores according to Energy-mobility dimension 16.7 (6.7-31.1), diabetes control 16.7 (6.9-30.5), anxiety-worry 29.2 (12.5-50.0 ), social burden 3.3 (0.0-13.3), sexual functioning 5.5 (0.0-38.9), total average 39 questions 16.2 (9.4-29.7). Supplementary questions CV 66.7 (50.0-83.3) severity of diabetes 33.3 (16.7-66.7). The women had a greater impact on energy-mobility, (20 against 14, p = 0.029), anxiety-concern (37.5 against 25, p = 0.004), the men had a greater effect on sexual functioning (16.7 against 0, p <0.001). Under 65 years of age presented greater involvement in diabetes control (20.1 vs. 12.5, p = 0.002), anxiety-worry (37.5 vs. 20.8, p <0.001), social burden (3 vs. 0 , p <0.001), and self-perception of the severity of diabetes (50 vs. 33.3, p <0.001). In the validation of split halves, 39 questions were divided into 5-dimensional blocks in halves, the scores were correlated, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.948. The validation of the questionnaire allows the instrument to be used in future research, a greater condition was observed in women, the greater affection regarding the perception in the related CV in the group of people under 65 years
