This movement marked a complex relationship in the redefinition of State performance, especially those practiced in the electric sector. More and more the discourse and ideology were built that the developmental state that was in force in the past was unsuccessful and that there was a need for a set of market oriented reforms. This process was marked by interests of classes, class fractions, elites and national and international businessmen who knew how to take advantage of privatizations very well. The discussion, however modest, of these questions is our purpose in this article. O setor elétrico brasileiro passou por um conjunto de reformas e reestruturações durante os anos 90. Este movimento marcou uma relação complexa na redefinição de atuação do Estado, principalmente as praticadas no setor elétrico. Cada vez mais se construía o discurso e a ideologia de que o Estado Desenvolvimentista que vigorou no passado estava fracassado e, que havia necessidade de realização de um conjunto de reformas orientadas para o mercado. Este processo foi marcado por interesses de classes, frações de classes, elites e empresários nacionais e internacionais que souberam aproveitar muito bem das privatizações. A discussão, mesmo que modesta, sobre estas indagações é nosso propósito neste artigo. O setor elétrico brasileiro passou por um conjunto de reformas e reestruturações durante os anos 90.
