It was in this direction in which the Argentine historian resorted to part of the work of Sarmiento, especially Facundo, since he had faced the same problem with Rosas in the nineteenth century, for that reason, his thought had been conciliatory and necessary for national unity and could, perhaps, be resumed to face a similar situation. La democracia inorgánica fue uno de los interrogantes históricos abordados por José Luis Romero con el objetivo de conocer las diatribas de la política nacional signadas por el gobierno peronista, para lo cual atendió dos aristas: en primer lugar, la condición particular de la política latinoamericana signada por su inadecuación con los modelos europeos y, en segundo lugar, el rol y las características de las masas que habían apoyado dichos movimientos; ambas diferenciaciones parten de la oposición entre ideas, por un lado, y realidad, por el otro lado, que da pie a que la segunda pueda ser modificada por las primeras. Fue en esta dirección en la cual el historiador argentino recurrió a parte de la obra de Sarmiento, especialmente Facundo, ya que había afrontado el mismo problema con Rosas en el siglo XIX, por eso, su pensamiento había sido conciliador y necesario para la unidad nacional y podía, debía tal vez, ser retomado para afrontar una coyuntura similar.
