We’ll concentrate in the Police Intendencia of Buenos Aires, created in 1812 with the May Revolution as background. The regulation that configures the Intendencia will be placed in discussion with the Bando of 1799, which conformed the police tasks, to look for continuities and ruptures in the plot that gives life to this institutional spaces. We don’t pretend to develop a conceptual history of the word ‘police’, but we will explore, simultaneously and even with our limitations, some of the ideas that have formed and transformed the control and surveillance institutions throughout the XIX century in the Río de la Plata. Este artículo se propone analizar las posibles diferencias y continuidades en la conceptualización de la policía en la última década del siglo XVIII y las primeras del siglo XIX, en clave comparativa. Haremos foco en la Intendencia de Policía de Buenos Aires creada en 1812 en el marco de la Revolución de Mayo. El Reglamento que configura a dicha Intendencia será puesto en discusión con el Bando de 1799 que delimitaba las funciones policiales, para indagar sobre las continuidades y rupturas en las concepciones que dan vida a estos espacios institucionales. Lejos de pretender desarrollar una historia conceptual sobre el término policía, sí realizaremos, de forma paralela y aun con nuestras limitaciones, una indagación breve sobre algunas de las ideas que han formado y transformado a las instituciones de control en el siglo XIX rioplatense.
