In none of these writings is there any trace or mention of any political idea of value. Not even the controversy over the ideal of Franciscan poverty has left no trace in the written lines. William Ockham, el Venerabilis Inceptor y el Doctor plus quam subtilis, comenzó su carrera académica, simplemente como teólogo y filósofo, quien no tenía, o al menos no revelaba el menor interés en cuestiones políticas. En el año 1324 o por lo menos en el 1327, tenía realizados todos sus trabajos de asuntos puramente teológicos o filosóficos, que son de nuestro conocimiento. En ninguno de estos escritos, hay rastro ni mención de alguna idea política de valor. Ni siquiera la controversia sobre el ideal de la pobreza franciscana, no ha dejado seña en las líneas escritas.
