Fisiología comparada de la determinación del número de granos y del rendimiento en soja, girasol y maíz

This thesis analysed seed number (SNP) determination as a function of growth (PGRC) and reproductive partitioning (PR) during the critical period for seed set. The minimum assimilate requirement per seed, the efficiency in seed set (Ef), plant-to-plant variation and harvest index were, additionally,...

The minimum assimilate requirement per seed, the efficiency in seed set (Ef), plant-to-plant variation and harvest index were, additionally, analysed. The empirical and analytical approaches were based on, respectively, the study of individual plants within populations of varying plant density, and the search of models with biological significance. Reproductive partitioning was fairly stable in response to PGRC variation in soybean and sunflower, and showed an optimum in non-prolific maize. In this species, strong plant-to-plant variation and instability in PR and Ef was detected at PGRC @ 2 g d-1. Direct associations between reproductive allocation and PGRC, and between SNP and reproductive growth accounted for the linear SNP-PGRC association in soybean. In sunflower, SNP was limited both by floret load and Ef at low and at high PGRC, rather than PR. In maize, SNP was related to both PR and Ef.
