Solubility of solids in near-critical fluids II. CHI3and CI4in ethene

The solubilities of CHI3(s) and CI4(s) in near-critical fluid C2H4have been spectrophoto-metrically determined. Isothermal solubility measurements were carried out under subcritical conditions in the dense phase at temperature (273.13±0.01) K for CHI3and (274.47±0.01) K for CI4, and under supercriti...

Sumario:The solubilities of CHI3(s) and CI4(s) in near-critical fluid C2H4have been spectrophoto-metrically determined. Isothermal solubility measurements were carried out under subcritical conditions in the dense phase at temperature (273.13±0.01) K for CHI3and (274.47±0.01) K for CI4, and under supercritical conditions at (293.85±0.04) K and (303.19±0.03) K for CHI3and (392.87±0.05) K for CI4; isobaric runs were done for both solutes at a pressure of (6.370±0.001) MPa. Solubilities increase strongly with p and T close to the thermodynamic state where the compressibility or the expansivity of the solvent, respectively, pass through a maximum. It is observed that CI4is almost ten times less soluble than CHI3in near-critical C2H4. © 1993 Academic Press Ltd.
