During the San Jose I survey (September-October 1984), 120 grab sample units were taken, with 231 species of molluscs, polychaets, crustaceans, echinoderms and brachiopods. The sample units were classified by two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN) and seven groups were obtained: A, Chiridota marenzelleri - Peltarium spinosulum; B, Notomastus aff. luridus - Cirolana sp2 - Ampelisca sp.; C, Harmothoe magellanica; D, Aulacomya atra - Harmothoe magellanica - Ophiactis asperula - Eunice argentinensis - Arbacia dufresnei; E, Corbula lyoni - Aglaophamus praetiosus; F, Buccinanops globulosum; G, Tellina gibber - Buccinanops lamarckii - Aglaophamus heteroserratus - Macrochiridotea stebbingi - Monoculopsis valentini. These groups were related to depth and substrate using correspondence analysis. Groups, depths and substrates were strongly related. An ordination using canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) was performed as complementary analysis. The zoogeographic characteristics of the San Jose Gulf macrozoobenthos are discussed and comparisons among found groups with other similar assemblages are performed.  |l eng
